Thomas R. Hoye教授简介

Thomas R. Hoye grew up in New Wilmington, PA. He attended Bucknell University where research experiences in heterocyclic chemistry in the laboratories of Professor Harold W. Heine quickly convinced him to put aside study of chemical engineering to concentrate on organic chemistry. He completed the B.S./M.S. degree requirements at Bucknell in 1972 and proceeded to graduate studies in the laboratory of Professor Robert B. Woodward at Harvard  University, earning the Ph.D.degree in 1976. That fall he joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota, where he has spent his independent career. In 2002 he was named the Merck Professor of Chemistry at Minnesota. His teaching interests span synthetic and mechanistic organic chemistry as well as the continuing evolution of an honors undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory course. He was recognized as a University of Minnesota Distinguished Graduate Teaching Professor in 1999, the inaugural year of that award. Seventy-three students have completed their Ph.D. thesis research under his guidance. In 2007 he received the Horace T. Morse-University of Minnesota Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education. More than 130 undergraduate students have carried out research studies in his laboratories with half matriculating to graduate programs in chemistry.
